Carlie Scharing is a Partner at Means Financial and Insurance Services. Carlie has known the Means family for over 25 years as both families grew up in the same church together in the early 2000s. As Mark recently retired, the continued focus for Carlie and Brock is to carry on the legacy of what Mark founded over 40 years ago. Outside of MFIS Carlie enjoys doing Pilates, baking sourdough, and spending time with friends and family. She is also very active and present in her local church.
Brock Means is a Partner at Means Financial & Insurance Services and has been in the insurance industry for 15 years. Together, with Mark Means, whom founded MFIS in 2004, manages all general operations, new business production and client relations. He loves being in the insurance business because it’s an industry where everyday offers new opportunities and creativity.
Before joining Means Financial, Brock studied in Arizona and moved to San Diego, CA shortly after college. Outside of MFIS his primary focus is on his wife and 3 miniature Dachshunds (Bella, Toby and Clyde) – and when time permits Brock enjoys fishing, golfing, billiards, mountain biking, camping and boating as much as possible.
Mark began his career in the insurance industry in the fall of 1978 He was a sales agent responsible for personal production of various insurance products. During his first year he achieved the distinction of Rookie of the Year, which was just the beginning of his trail of success. Mark was also awarded Presidents Council, Vanguard Club and was consistently awarded Associate of the Month. November of 1981 brought an opportunity to work inside the home office of Mutual Trust developing a marketing program for existing general agents known as the GAIT Program. Through this program, he assisted in recruiting and training through the development and implementation of the company sales training program nationwide. In July of 1983 Mark opened the Means Financial Group in Tucson, Arizona. Mark built a full service agency including an in house Attorney, CPA, Business Insurance Specialist and a Group Insurance Division. (read more here)
Allison Means was born and raised in Durango, CO and moved to San Diego in 2004. She studied nursing, phlebotomy, and kinesiology before joining Brock in the insurance industry in 2013. Allison met Brock in 2010 and they were married on the San Diego Bay in 2014. Her strong passion for animals has led them to rescue several senior dogs, and provided them with a loving home in their golden years. Allison enjoys anything outdoors and spends a lot of time camping, biking, hiking, boating, and spoiling their four dogs at any given chance!
Bryan Colin began his career with Means Financial Services in 2024, bringing with him over nine years of experience in the banking industry. His professional journey has been marked by continuous growth and a commitment to building meaningful client relationships, seeing clients as more than just numbers, but as partners.
Originally from Dawsonville, Georgia, Bryan made a bold move to San Diego, California, in 2019. Since then, he has steadily advanced in his career, leveraging both his industry knowledge and his fluency in Spanish to connect with a broader range of clients and communities.
In April 2025, Bryan achieved a significant milestone by earning his license in Property and Casualty Insurance, further expanding his ability to serve clients’ evolving needs.
Outside of work, Bryan is passionate about self-improvement and enjoys spending time at the gym, working on cars, and attending car shows. A self-proclaimed foodie, he especially enjoys exploring new restaurants in search of the perfect burger. He is also an active member of his local church and values opportunities to meet and engage with others in his community.
Above all, Bryan cherishes time spent with his wife, Rachel, and appreciates the simple joys of life they share together. His dedication to personal and professional growth continues to shape both his career and his life in San Diego.
